Argentina's National Highway Ruta Nacional 40 or Route 40 is the longest and most spectacular road in the country.
Ir spans over 4,900 km (3,100 miles) from Cape Virgenes on the South Atlantic coast by the Strait of Magellan in the Patagonian province of Santa Cruz, to the lofty heights of the Puna, reaching the border town of La Quiaca, by Bolivia.
It has the World's highest mountain pass on a national highway (Acay pass) with nearly 5,000 metres altitude (16,000 ft.).
Cruza el paso carretero de montaña más alto del mundo en una ruta nacional (el paso Acay) a casi 5.000 metros de altura.
It runs parallel to the mighty Andeas and crosses eleven Argentine provices, 236 bridges and gives access to 27 international mountain passes across the Andes.
Its bridges span 18 important rivers.
It comes close to, or cuts through 13 National Parks and Monuments as well as three World Heritage sites of the UNESCO.
This is the magic Route 40.
